August seems to be a more relaxing time of summer. Most of us are fully into the rhythm of longer days, the grass isn’t growing so fast, the garden is all planted…it’s a nice time to relax and enjoy what summer has to offer.
AUGUST IS FOR...
Enjoying the vegetables you planted. You should be beginning to enjoy the fruits of your labor! If you find that you have too much of something, share it with neighbors or a local food pantry.
Looking at your garden. Now is a good time to start to take note of what did and didn't work in your flower and vegetable gardens so you can make improvements next year.
Going to a farmer's market. Keeping your food local is important not just for supporting your local farmers but also for better tasting produce. Now is the time to enjoy their bounty. Next month, you can look forward to David’s late-summer vegetables—their looking good!
Speaking of keeping it local, we have a group of fishermen who want to start a co-op here in Warren. Won't that be great to actually buy your seafood from the person who caught it? We will pass along more details when they’re available.
August is prime time to divide those spring flowering perennials. Spread the beauty by dividing then transplanting those spring flowering perennials. It's best to do it during a cooler part of the day and water thoroughly afterward.
Continue to enjoy your summer!
