The calendar tells us that fall is here and we’re feeling the beginnings of it in the temperature. And although gardening is winding down, things are busy here at the farm. Fall plants, a stocked gift shop and plenty of family activities are going on this month.
First up is the event that just keeps gaining pounds in the fame department just as the pumpkins do—the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off. It will be held on Saturday, October 8th. If, forbid, it rains, festivities will be moved to Sunday, October 9th. This annual festival draws a huge crowd and area media coverage each time, but this time we have a nod from Martha Stewart! (see below) Don’t miss the jaw-dropping pumpkins, the splat of the pumpkin drop and all the family activities.
Pumpkin craziness continues each weekend through the end of October with Pumpkin Palooza. Bring the family to ride the pumpkin coach or snap the dragon, take a stroll through the western town and create family memories when you make a scarecrow or decorate a pumpkin. Pumpkin Palooza only happens on the weekends but the farm is open all week, Tuesday through Sunday.
Our mum field is still full of color with a variety of sizes available and we have pumpkins of all shapes and sizes in our pumpkin patch. Now that it’s time to pull out the annuals from your containers and window boxes, David suggests that you liven things up by throwing down some hay and placing any of our decorative gourds, pumpkins and mums in the bare spots. If you need some other fresh ideas for your fall garden, just ask us or any of our knowledgeable staff.
Our Gift Barn is brimming with fall décor and really fun and unique Halloween decorations. Stop in for a look.
There’s a lot of fun going on in October and we hope to see you on the farm!
